The juggernaut that is the Star Wars universe has permeated every form of media, including video games. The first official game, The Empire Strikes Back, made its debut on the Atari 2600 system on February 24, 1982. Many players were thrilled play in the Star Wars universe, even while Harlan Ellison called it  "electronic botulism."
